Stem Cell Therapy For Shoulders
STEM CELL THERAPY FOR SHOULDERS DESCRIPTION
Stem cell shoulder injections can help promote healing of the shoulder joint to reduce pain and restore mobility. Patients who are bothered by chronic shoulder pain, rotator cuff injuries, cartilage damage, bursitis, tendonitis, or arthritis of the shoulder may be candidates for stem cell shoulder repair. Stem cell treatment is a combination procedure that incorporates stem cell therapy and platelet rich plasma (PRP) treatment. During your procedure, mesenchymal stem cells are harvested from the layer of fat below your skin (known as adipose tissue). These stem cells are combined with platelet rich plasma (taken from a blood sample) to form a mixture. This mixture of stem cells and PRP is injected into the shoulder area to encourage repair and regeneration of the shoulder. Unlike traditional shoulder surgeries that require invasive incisions, artificial prostheses, and months of recovery, stem cell shoulder injections can help heal shoulder damage and reduce inflammation with minimal downtime.
STEM CELL THERAPY FOR SHOULDERS PROCEDURE
Stem cell shoulder repair is a minimally invasive procedure that requires local anesthesia. First, mesenchymal stem cells are extracted from the layer of fat beneath the skin using liposuction. Tiny cannulas are inserted below the skin through small incisions. These cannulas extract stem cell rich-fat from a donor location (usually the midsection or thighs). Your stem cells are then spun through a centrifuge, purified, and combined with platelet rich plasma taken from your blood. This mixture of stem cells and PRP is injected into the shoulder area to stimulate your body’s natural healing response.
Stem cell therapy patients can expect slight bruising and swelling to occur around both the donor area and treatment area; these side effects should subside within a few days. Patients can usually resume their daily activities after a few days, though strenuous physical activities should be avoided for a few weeks to allow for proper healing. Additionally, light shoulder stretches are encouraged to help promote mobility following your stem cell shoulder injection.
WHO WILL BE PERFORMING MY STEM CELL SHOULDER INJECTIONS?
Dr. Michael Seto will perform all stem cell shoulder injections. Dr. Seto is a board certified plastic surgeon with advanced expertise administering stem cell, PRP, and steroid treatments into all joints of the body. Dr. Seto has also completed a microsurgery orthopedic fellowship in hand and upper extremity plastic surgery.
WHAT TYPE OF STEM CELLS WILL BE USED DURING MY TREATMENT?
We do not use any pre-processed or pre-packaged stem cells or growth factors. Stem cell treatments are, by definition, indicative of a patient’s own tissue. When performing stem cell therapy, we use stem cells taken from adipose tissue (or fat). Although it is possible to harvest stem cells from bone marrow and blood, it is scientifically proven that the greatest abundance of stem cells comes from adipose tissue.
HOW DO I GET STARTED WITH STEM CELL THERAPY FOR SHOULDERS?
Dr. Roger Bassin, his doctors, and staff at Bassin Center For Plastic Surgery would be happy to help you set up a private consultation to discuss stem cell shoulder injections. You can give us a call at 877.333.3223 or schedule an appointment online for a consultation at one of our Florida locations: Melbourne, Orlando, Tampa, The Villages®.
**Dr. Bassin, together with Regeneris Medical, have teamed up to provide regenerative stem cell treatments for the repair and rejuvenation of arthritic and degenerative joint disease. In an effort to track patient data, and maintain compliance, all patients receiving any stem cell treatments are placed on our FDA registry. Patients who qualify may also be entered into our IRB approved study. What is an Institutional Review Board (IRB)? Under FDA regulations, an IRB is an appropriately constituted group that has been formally designated to review and monitor biomedical research involving human subjects. In accordance with FDA regulations, an IRB has the authority to approve or disapprove research. This group review serves an important role in the protection of the rights and welfare of human research subjects.
